Train and Race by Eric Guieb

September 24, 2010

Around 2 years back I was overweight and wanted to loose those extra pounds. Good thing our office decided to put up a Biggest Loser Challenge for there employees, I did not think twice joining. I started to run as means to get lean and fit but never thought such an activity was so tasking. Did my best and after 3 months I finished 3rd, WOW never expected that. It never came to mind running would jumpstart my love for multisport. Since then, I've been regularly running, whether training for a race or just keeping fit.

As I grew with the sport, the love for long-distance running, biking and swimming followed. Because of this I decided to join several ultramarathon, duathlon, and triathlon races. And in all these events I made sure to push myself since it always gives me sense of fulfillment testing my limits.

For this year my biggest goal was to finish the Cobra 70.3 Half-Ironman in Camsur. And as early as December 2009 I registered for this race even though I knew I was a poor swimmer and needed to develop road bike skills since at the time I only owned a mountain bike. Dedicated my time in training and joined races to overcome those weaknesses. Though it was a continuous trial and error struggle it was satisfying to know that I was improving. And then the time came for me race to swim 1.9km, bike 90km and run 21.1km. It was a tough journey but this time I was prepared and deep inside I knew I was ready to rumble. And to make the long story short “I came, I saw, and I conquered”.
